Ghoshpur Shri Ramkrishna Sevashrama is a non-profit rural development organization committed to
driving sustainable and inclusive growth in underserved communities. Inspired by the enduring
ideals of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda, the
Sevasram works to empower marginalized populations through education, healthcare, livelihood
development, and social welfare initiatives.
Our approach combines values-based service with grassroots execution, ensuring measurable social impact, long-term community resilience, and responsible utilization of CSR resources in alignment with national development priorities.
We are guided by the Bhavadhara (ideals) of the Ramakrishna Movement and follow the discipline and principles of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, inspired by the motto “Atmano Mokshartham Jagat Hitaya Cha”—for self-realization and the welfare of the world. Our programmes are implemented in close association with the Revered Maharajs of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, ensuring service that is ethical, transparent, and socially impactful.
Rural development lies at the core of our mission. We are committed to strengthening village ecosystems by empowering marginalized communities, enabling access to essential services, and creating pathways for sustainable livelihoods. Through focused interventions, we work to transform socio-economic disadvantage into long-term opportunity and inclusive growth.
Ghoshpur Shri Ramkrishna Sevashram was established on 20th April 2011, within the Kalinagar
Panchayat area of the Sundarban region. The ashram stands as a symbol of service, resilience,
and spiritual dedication, born out of a time of great crisis.
In 2009, the entire Sundarban belt was devastated by the catastrophic Cyclone Aila, which caused
immense loss of life and widespread destruction, affecting countless people and domestic
animals. In the immediate aftermath, many remote areas remained deprived of timely relief and
essential support.
During this critical period, the late and revered Swami Bitaranganandaji of Shikra Kulin village
took a noble initiative. He organized and distributed relief in Nazat, Kalinagar, and
surrounding villages for over a month, bringing much-needed hope and assistance to affected
communities.
Owing to geographical challenges—particularly the separation of Kalinagar, Sehara, and nearby
villages by the Betni River—the responsibility of relief distribution in these areas was
undertaken by dedicated individuals including Sudhanshu Bar, Sachin Bar, and Dr. Bhaba Sindhu
Mondal, along with several others.
Despite numerous hardships, they continued their relief efforts tirelessly. Inspired by their
collective commitment to service, they envisioned establishing a permanent institution—a
Sevashram—to serve the local community in a sustained manner.
Soon after the immediate crisis of Cyclone Aila was brought under control, efforts began toward
the formation of the ashram. Through careful planning and collective initiative, 33 shatak of
land was acquired for ₹1,78,000. This marked the formal beginning of Ghoshpur Shri Ramkrishna
Sevashram on 20th April 2011.
The primary initiators contributed a substantial portion of the funds for the land, while
several well-wishers extended their support and cooperation. The establishment and subsequent
development of the ashram were further guided and blessed by the respected Swami
Vivekatmanandaji of Ramakrishna Mission, Taki.
Over time, Ghoshpur Shri Ramkrishna Sevashram has evolved into a vital part of the broader
Sundarban movement of spiritual and social service, inspired by the ideals of Shri Ramakrishna
and Swami Vivekananda.
Today, it continues to serve as a center for humanitarian work, spiritual growth, and community
upliftment—carrying forward a vision that emerged from adversity and compassion.
